What started as a Sunday potluck among friends missing their upbringing in the Philippines, Barrio’s is a Filipino restaurant in Grafton st.
Helmed by Chef Niño Sevilla, who was born and raised in the Quezon province of the Philippines and has been living in Nova Scotia province of Canada for 14 years, it offers a selection of dishes which draw inspiration from Filipino and Canadian cultures and flavours.
By using traditional Filipino cooking techniques from the Philippines’ 7,640 islands on locally-sourced Canadian produce, the team serves a variety of food for everyone’s palate two cultures straight to one’s plate.
Filipino cuisine centres around the combination of sweet(tamis), sour (asim) and salty (alat), although in Bicol, the cordilleras and among Muslim Filipinos, Spicy (anghang) is a base of cooking flavour.
As a restaurant, Barrio’s brings its customers to a journey in the Philippines’ through their tastebuds. By combining authentic Filipino techniques and locally-sourced Canadian ingredients, two cultures straight to one’s plate.
